BEFORE.
Branding a building is one thing. Branding a 50-metre-high wind turbine in the middle of a field is something else entirely.
When Octopus Energy approached our client, Citiprint, with an ambitious idea to transform a wind turbine into a giant branded landmark, they needed a specialist team capable of taking the installation to new heights.
That’s where Media Abseiling came in.
Our brief was to install the high-level branding onto the turbine, working on a curved, vertical surface some 50 metres above the ground.
With no conventional access platform in sight, an exposed location and unpredictable wind conditions to contend with, this was never going to be a straightforward installation.
Fortunately, challenging access is what we do best.
DURING.
For the installation, the team worked with Mactac M7 specialist self-adhesive vinyl, applying the graphics directly to the turbine’s exterior.
Starting high up on the structure, our technicians progressively worked their way down the turbine, carefully positioning and applying the vinyl to bring the Octopus Energy branding to life.
Working on ropes meant every movement had to be controlled. Applying large-format graphics at height requires accuracy, patience and a steady hand – particularly when the surface you’re working on is exposed to the elements.
The team combined specialist rope access techniques with their experience in high-level graphic installations to deliver the branding across the turbine’s curved surface.

What started as an ambitious branding idea became a striking large-scale installation, transforming a 50-metre wind turbine into a highly visible piece of Octopus Energy branding.
Working alongside Citiprint, Media Abseiling provided the specialist rope access expertise needed to make the high-level installation possible.
From climbing to the top of the turbine and rigging the ropes to carefully applying the vinyl while suspended above the ground, the project demonstrated how even the most unconventional surfaces can become branding opportunities with the right expertise.
And sometimes, the best way to tackle a project isn’t to work your way up.
It’s to start at the top and work your way down.
